Customer Reviews:
The third and final book
I am starting Intermediate Japanese (Japanese 5) and this is the book for the course. I am giving this a 4 because I wish that the chapters were longer and more indepth, but since I have a native japanese speaker instructing, he does a good job filling in the gaps. Also, as one studying for the JLPT, I wish more japanese books taught along those guidelines.
Good result, but more information about the product needed
In fact I got what I wanted, but it was not so easy to be sure that I had ordered the right item. There are various editions and revisions of the book and the accompanying CDs. I already had the book but I wanted the CDs for the same edition of the book.It was only by specifying the ISBN number that I could find the right product. However the ISBN number is not actually shown on the order.
Excellent, updated learning material for Intermediate/ advanced Intermediate level
We are using this text in class. The Material is relevant, with enough depth and breadth. the CD's that came with the text and the exercise book (2 different CD's) are a joy to listen to. I play them in my car, saying a long as best I can. The speech seems to be normal conversation speed. This is intended for the advanced-Intermediate learner. Would be excellent as a text in class as well as for self-studies.
I find this set, plus the Japanesepod101.com lessons online, and the Pimseuler CD's are the most efficient, effective and enjoyable way to learn.
Not as entertaining as the Level II workbook
Japanese For Busy People is an odd series: It was not composed at once, but instead each piece came at a different time. And this is evident both in the main books and the workbooks.
While I really enjoyed the Workbook for level II, I must say this one is too dry, exercises are too short, and overall lacks the "story" that was present in Workbook II thanks to Mr. Biji. Our friend is still featured, but not as prominently as he should have.
On the other side, this book gets more serious than the previous and provides valuable cultural information, together with Kanji practice, a necessity for those going Heisig-Sensei's path.
Effective way to learn Japanese
We used this in my high school as our Japanese textbook, and I loved its style and effectiveness. Great language book.
